joystick problems

Forgive me if this question has been asked already, as i'm sure it has.

I'm new to the emulator and seem to have problems every now and then using UP on my joystick. It just seems to go missing in action at times, while LEFT, RIGHT and DOWN work fine.

I've been messing around with the calibration and settings and at times I just can't get it to work even though i've had it work properly during gameplay before.

Any help please.
