How do you use a SID file?

Post by Donski »

I downloaded Below The Root from a site on the internet, it came with a .sid file. When I play the game, the sound cracks a lot. What is the .sid file used for, I'm assuming it's for correcting the sound. How do I use the sid file that came with the download?

I also have a different game that I took directly off an old floppy and a 1541 drive. It has problems with the sound so I was wondering how they created the sid file?
Anything is possible, when you don't know what you're talking about.

SID file are rips of C64 sound, which need to be played back using a SID Player, not an emulator:

So what you're saying is that those sid files don't work in conjuction with the CCS64, so they're not doing me any good unless I use a different emulator. Or do you just simply install SIDPLAY2, associate the file with it, and then everything sounds right?

That's right.

Yes, you do that also. CCS64 doesn't play SID files, only disk/tape image files. So, install SIDPlay2/W, associate SID files with the EXE, then you're OK...

Hoxs64 can play certain SID files, but this is not a normal feature of a C64 emulator; it is particular to Hoxs64.
