Using a US/English keyboard, * in the emulator is ], since the keys are mapped to their C64 equivalents.

It took me a while of pressing random buttons but I finally got it and got the game to work. Thanks for helping me, I doubt I'd ever found a emulator that works for me without advice. Thanks!!
