I would also be very very happy if I could record to AVI.
Currently I use 'CamStudio', a video screen-capture tool, but with it, as well as Taksi, the main problem is, that there is no audio-recording, except of the audio via the microphone.
I would be very glad, if one could record vintage game videos along with sound (not over microphone).
