Popping Sound and CPU Usage

Hi,
I have just started to use CCS64 v3 Beta 1.3 on Windows 2000 SP4.
When I start it, I get a popping sound, and this happens also whenever I minimise or maximise the window, or if the window is activated or deactivated.
When this happens, the CPU usage briefly jumps to 100%.
I have also noticed that when I press F9 to go to the options screen, the CPU usage jumps to 100% and stays there until I exit the options screen.
I have selected Primary Sound Driver as the sound device.
I have the latest drivers for my Santa Cruz soundcard, the latest DirectX, and the latest drivers for my GeForce graphics card.
I don't get the popping sound with VICE. Perhaps that's because it has a customisable sound buffer size? I don't know.
I would appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Jonny
