Can any C64 emulator folks out there please tell me why I cannot use my USB Joystick with Sword of Fargoal? My emulator is CSS64. What can I do? I cannot locate a pin-based joystick.

1) Ensure the joystick is working in Windows. Check in the Windows control panel if the joystick is detected and working properly.
2) If it is a digital joystick (for example a Competition Pro USB), select joy adapter 1 under control port 1 OR control port 2 (only one, leave the other to None!) in the input menu of CCS64 (Alt/I).
3) Check if the joystick gives response in CCS64. In the Input menu (Alt/I), choose Calibrate Joy Adapter and check if the crosshair is moving at joystick device 1 or 2.
4) You can connect an original old joystick to you PC by modifying a USB gamepad or digital joystick. This is the way I did it. Below a picture of my gamepad/joystick:
This way you can make one for yourself:

Any way to use the keyboard for this game? I'm dying to run this for my dad, who he and I used to play Sword of Fargoal for hours on end, and it would really be a great surprise for him.

In CCS64, press Alt/I
Set Control Port 1 to "None"
Set Control Port 2 to "Joystick"
Set Mode (under Control Port 2) to "Key-Set 3"
Choose "Define Joystick Keyset"
Browse with the arrow-right key to Key-Set 3
Define the keys you want for up, down, left, right and the fire button
The keys you defined will act as a joystick connected in port 2 now!
