Using Multiple Disk Drives

CCS64 has the ability to use up to 4 disk drives.
What purpose does this serve ?
I thought it might be so I could load each disk of a multi disk game and then it would automatically load - but that wasn't it.
It didn't even work manually pointing to the disk in another drive.
Also is it possible to copy some files from one disk to another disk by using multiple disk drives ?
The 1541 manual doesn't mention it, only copying files to the same disk.
