Mail Order Monsters- great game - help!

Post by aarondesk »

Hello all,
I'm trying to get Mail Order Monsters (from www.c64.com) to work. The game needs a character disk to save the character information for the tournament. Upon choosing Tournament and Start, I'm prompted:

"Do you have an initialized disk?"
I choose No.
"Insert a blank disk Press button when ready."
I press F9, go to a directory, scroll down, then press F1 to create a new d64 file. I name the d64 file, then back in the game press a button.
"Initializing- Please wait a minute"
wait, wait, wait.
"This is not an initialized owner disk. Do you have an initialized owner disk?"
Back where we started.

Any ideas?

Is there a way to format a disk, rather than having MOM format it?

Thanks

Just use a standard C64 disk utility (eg "Disk wizard") to format the disk, not the inbuilt features of MOM or any emulator.
The latter will NOT work for MOM.

For those having formatting problems, try a blank .g64 instead of a blank .d64

Many game formatters break when used on .d64 files because the format will not store sector IDs.

PS: I remember having this problem back on my real c64 with the crack of mail order monsters Ihad. the game would keep sayin gthe disk wasn't initialized.

SO i suspect it's an issue with the crack, as the formatting process ingame always works with the original disc.

Stuck on "Game Disk"

Post by nezkrul »

I totally agree this is a great game, but I would love to be able to play the game's "Tournament" mode, instead of beginner. I keep running into problems when the game asks for the "Game Disk". I already got an owner disk intialized successfully, but now the game can't find itself? Anyone else ever have this problem or know how to fix it?

Stuart, would you be able to email me this fix too? I'm having the same issue described here in this thread. I'm unable to create an initialized owner disk for MOM. I've tried creating it with both a blank d64 and g41. Thanks for the help.

I am not able to e-mail it to you, since the system tells me that you mail-box is currently unavailable. If you still want it, please PM me an alternative e-mail address.

Heya Stuart...mind emailing me the fix? I just came upon this site tonight, got MoM up, but after a Tournament match it asks for the owner disk and I can't get past it. Any help would be appreciated!
