game not loading after 'press play on tape'

hi there.
so, i got ccs64, and used it to load and run 221b baker street
which is split into three files (sides 1, 2 & 3, though i have no idea which one i'm supposed to be using to run the game). i type 'load' and press enter, then it says 'press play on tape'. after that, i've tried selecting various things (alt-8, f9, alt-1), turning the play button on then pressing esc to return to the load screen (dunno if i'm supposed to do that? seems to be the only thing i can do from there). then the screen reads:
searching
?break error
ready
ok and now, i've got the play button toggled to 'on', and i try again to load and run 221b, and the screen just says 'ready' again. what's the deeeeeeal?
