Times of Lore controls

hi. just started playing my favorite old c64 game on a pc. everything works fine, i just can't figure out how to save the game! and also, i can only be the barbarian. any advice?
Saving Game - If the game has no proper way to save built-in, then you can always using the Load/Save State options, in the State... sub-menu.
Controls - I suggest you check that you do not have any of the controls set to special keys and also that none of the controls are conflicting with each other.
