converting tap files back to tape

NOt sure where to make this entry.
Anyway, I have the wav-prg program and was wondering what the failure rate is of converting tap and T64 files back to an actual tape via the sound card to load on an actual c64?

I tried trhis using an audio lead and a portable tape recorder without success.

Btw, what is the difference between a tap and T64 and which is better?
