If RUN doesn't work, there's probably some other command that you use to start the program. Usually, that's the SYS command, which is used to jump to a location in memory. Unfortunately, that location can vary quite a bit from program to program.

I've got loads of disks with games on them that require you to memorize a SYS command to run them. The most common are SYS 64738 for games that are designed to run when you reset the computer (these are, quite frequently, games that were copied to disk from cartridges) and SYS 49152 for games that start at the $C000 memory area. Try both of those. (Make sure you get the numbers right.)

If neither of those work, we'll have to know what particular game you're trying to run. It may require a different SYS command, or it could even start up with another method.

Alternatively, you could search online for a version of your game that can be started with RUN. (I like the Arnold C64 site. Lots of games on there, alphabetized for your convenience.)

The SYS command isn't a JMP, it's a JSR. an RTS instruction will return you to BASIC.

Here's a list of common SYS commands.

1) sys 49152. ($c000) This is often used by type-in ML games from magazines, as well as a few cracks.
2) sys 32768. ($8000) Many 8k cart games start this way.
3) sys 64738. Many other cart games start this way. One notable game that does is James Bond.
4) sys 32761. SOME cart game cracks start THIS way. Why? don't ask me...
5) sys 16384. ($4000) I've seen this used sometimes
6) whatever the LOAD ADDRESS of the file is. Usually it's either the direct start of program, or contains a JSR to the main program.

Also, you can always try stop/Restore. it might work... if it causes the game to start, but not function correctly, try sys64738

Maybe you are 'stuck' in a crackers intro screen? If so, press the Space-bar to continue...
